I have a 1986 Pontiac Fiero 4 cylinder 2.5L, 5 speed manual, that needs a
waterpump replacement.
. . . . . . I located a site that shows cross references and the '82 to '86
Celebrity and the '80
to 85 Citation use the same pump. Along with Buick, and Olds.
. . .Now my question is about the actual installation. My current leaking
pump has a 3 grove pulley on it. I understand these pulleys have to be
pressed fits onto the replacement pump. From the pics of these pumps it
appears the hex bolts have to be in place in the pump flange prior to
pressing on the pulley. In the pics it appears the pulley covers the bolt
holes in the pump flange.
. . .. Can anyone enlighten me on this installation? I sure would
appreciate it.
in advance to 1 & all, thanks. . . chas

Piece of cake. 4 small studs hold the big pulley to the pump hub. When the
pulley is off the hub, then the studs into the block (around the pump) are
easily accessed. Biggest task is to salvage the hub off the old pump as it
has to be used on the new one. I just sawed the old pump body enough so
that using my Harbor Freight pipe bender I easily pushed the hub off the
shaft. A friend loaned me his GMC fine threaded tool (bolt) that fit
through the hub and joined the threaded hole in the new pump shaft. Then
cranking down on this 'bolt tool' forced the hub onto the new shaft. chas
